Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is an American-born British sitar player and music artist. She is the youngest woman and also the first woman to be awarded a British House of Commons shield. Anoushka Shankar is a rising star on the Indian sitar. She is the child of Ravi Shankar and a former student. She was born in 1982 in London. Her childhood years were spent in London and New Delhi. In New Delhi, she made her debut at just thirteen years of age. In 1999, she completed her high school studies in Encinitas CA. Anouskha even though she is just a teenager, has had an impressive recording and performing career. Her father has been with her on numerous occasions for several years. In 1998, she released her first single album Anourag. The album was titled the album Live At Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album two years later. Her stage career is very vast as she has performed in most of the biggest venues in the world. The career of Anoushka goes far beyond the realm of music. Bapi The Love of My Life is an illustrated biography she wrote in 2002. The book pays tribute to her father, who passed away in 2002. Ravi Shankar. Also, in films in 2003 she was in the movie Dance Like a Man where she is an aspiring Bharat Natyam dancer. Anoushka Shankar is currently a rising superstar and her fame will keep on growing. Anoushka was raised in England, but spent most of her childhood between London as well as Delhi. She then moved to California and attended high school there. at the age of nine, she started studying music with her father. The first time she performed on the Sitar took place during her birthday celebrations for her 75th birthday in Delhi just four years later. Anoushka, who accompanied her father during his world tour, gained an incredible amount of experience. As a teenager, she performed in Carnegie Hall as part of Peter Gabriel's WOMAD as well as recorded with George Harrison. It is the House of Commons Shield was awarded an award from the British Parliament for being the top Asian Arts musician. She is the only woman and the youngest winner of the distinction.
